by 5

Where:  Wythop Hall Estate, Keswick, Cumbria
When: 16-17 May 2009

The Wild Boar 24 hr Event Team write…

Following on from our successful first outing last year, we’ve listened carefully to all our riders and are proud to announce the Wild Boar 24hr is back, new and improved and ready to rock! We’ve invested lots of time and energy to find a classic 24 hr course, situated in the Lake District, where we can guarantee a fabulously stunning course that has been designed for mountain bikers by mountain bikers.

What can you expect? Expected the unexpected!

We’re working on an 8-mile loop that incorporates lots of classic Lakeland riding. You’ll be discovering what the Lake District does best: mountains, moors, fell and forestry, be under no illusion, it will be demanding but very satisfying.

The course for 2009 will start and finish in the campsite/arena area and will have something for everyone, from the complete novice through to the hardened soloist.

AYUP lights will be providing illuminating advice, while Shimano will be providing tech support. Local bike emporium Wheelbase will be on hand too, providing your retail fix. There’ll be all the essentials too; food, toilets, and entertainment, if you have the energy. Oh and we guarantee the weather; there’ll definitely be some.

The venue

Situated just up the road from Keswick, Wythop Hall, a private estate lies in one of the Lake District’s most hidden and surprising valleys. The surrounding area is outstandingly beautiful and if you stop to take a breather at the top of the course you’ll be rewarded with stunning views over the North Lakes. The venue itself is completely different to last year. Expect plenty of climbing, at least 500m! Then get ready for loads of fun descending down into the forest before heading back out onto the fell. There’ll be plenty of singletrack and very little fire road, so in fact it’ll be a mountain bikers delight.

Camping will be free of charge for the duration of the event from Friday until Monday morning. This is also the weekend of Keswick Mountain Festival so the whole family can come along and find plenty to do if they don’t want to watch you having fun on the trails.

I have been a writer for nigh on 20 years, a photographer for 25 years and a mountain biker for 30 years. I have written countless magazine and website features and route guides for the UK mountain bike press, most notably for the esteemed and highly regarded Singletrackworld. Although I am a Lancastrian, I freely admit that West Yorkshire is my favourite place to ride. Rarely a week goes by without me riding and exploring the South Pennines.
