Faction Bike’s Zeitgeist 22″ Wheel Bike June 4th, 2009

bike-white-wall-large-pic1

It is claimed to the World’s first high performance 22″ wheel freestyle and jump bike.

80’s BMX legends Eddie Fiola in the U.S. and Craig Campbell (U.K.) are both riding them and Mat Hoffman has also offered to help out with test riding.

Faction Bikes are a rider owned company based in Shrewsbury, Shropshire and are currently top 3 finalists in the still running Shropshire Star ‘The Big Idea’ new business awards.

As seen on TV’s The Gadget Show, the new 22 inch wheel Zeitgeist bike rrp £349.99 from Faction Bike Co is being touted as the “ideal crossover” bike between a BMX and an MTB.

Designed as a bike for learning dirt jumping moves on for folk who feel traditional 20″ wheel BMX bikes are too small for their liking.

The theory behind using 22″ wheels is to give the bike a more stable feel in the air but without being too big as to restrict manoeuvrability.

The frame and forks are 100% 4130 cromoly.

“ideal crossover” bike between a BMX and an MTB.

That’ll be a crusier, then will it?

As much as I hate the ever expanding amount of standards out there (I’m pretty sure you’ll be able to buy wheels in the same way as you buy trousers soon, in two inch intervals) I actually really like the idea of this…

Ideal for those of us who are a little on the large size for a 20″ wheeled bike. I’d have one.

What’s wrong with the long held standard of 24in wheels for cruiser BMXs?

  • 12: Ben_Haworth The Author - June 5th, 2009

24in wheeled bikes always seem to sketchy death traps IME! :-)

Cobra BMX! Another blast from the past! We used to get the train over to Bradford and have a look in Cobra before going up to the BMX track!! Good old days. I remember some glue sniffer tried hassling us once but he collapsed mid-hassle and had to be carted off in an ambulance, complete with his bag of glue for analysis!!

the “ideal crossover” bike between a BMX and an MTB.

Substitute ‘crossover’ with ‘compromise’ and that’s exactly what you’ll have :(
20″ for BMX, 26″ for MTB . . . end of. But then I am sized to cope perfectly well with either ;)

I’ve seen the Faction boys riding these and they sure can ride, but what is wrong is 20″ wheels?? Don’t understand the need for this except to introduce people to the awesome world of park riding which just shouldn’t be missed if you are a serious cyclist.

That 80’s BMX TV show was called “BMX Beat”, had some bloke called Andy Ruffle hosting it I think? Lots of Skyway mags and lairy colours on display. Nice.

Just bought one and pick it up in the morning from Alans. Will let you know how it goes. Still rollin on the 20’s but love the look of this new concept and could do with a bit more room.
