The 2010 Welsh Ride Thing

by 0

Inspired by Jenn’s Great Divide story this issue? Though perhaps a little put off by the time, fitness and well, dedication needed? Or perhaps you were heartened by the ‘lite’ version of the Welsh Ride Thing in the same issue… Well, we’ve just heard from Stuart at Forest Freeride that there’ll be another STW-forum inspired big ride weekend again this May. If you fancied the idea of a more manageable mini-Great Divide event over a few days and 100 miles (rather than a month and 2500) miles, then listen up…

“The 2010 ‘Thing’ will take place over the bank holiday weekend of May 29th-31st, we’re hoping for a repeat of last year’s weather which was nothing short of ideal. As with last year, riders will be expected to navigate their own route between designated grid references so there’s no right or wrong route. This year we’ve also decided to offer two sets of grid references.

This should offer riders the choice of a long or shorter distance, approx’ 250km or 150km depending on your navigation skills. We’re hoping this will open it up to more riders of varying experience. Besides planning and navigating, you’ll also be camping, bivvying or just kipping in a hedge for two nights, so you’ll have to carry everything you need with you. The area you’ll be riding is some of the wildest and remote in Wales so a bivvy bag may be a safer option than banking on finding a hotel!

You can ride solo, in pairs or any sort of group you like – we’re very easy going. Anyone wanting to take part or with any questions should email stuart@forestfreeride.co.uk

Full details will then be emailed out once they’ve been finalised.
