Well it had to be done, twelve XML LEDs in a fan cooled case ๐Ÿ˜†

[IMG] [/IMG]
LEDs are on a multi finned alu heatsink but with a copper mounting plate.
[IMG] [/IMG]
Air is drawn up from the underside. I had space for a splashguard but the stem keeps the crud away. Its been out on some really wet rides - no probs.
[IMG] [/IMG]
Battery pack is Li-ion 14V 10Ahr. 1 hour at full bore, 3 hrs @ 4000 Lm (which is perfect for most of the rides) and theres a 10 hour setting as well.
[IMG] [/IMG]
My old Lumi Halide
[IMG] [/IMG]
Ahem.
And there's enough hot air blasted out the back to keep the hands warm on a cold night. Fan is actually a 50mm miniature blower.

got to love the home-brew-ability of new LED tech.

I like the Everestness of a 12,000lm lamp. Good work fella.
The naysayers will be along in a minute completely missing the point...

Superb! That's made my day! LOL! ๐Ÿ˜†

How long does the battery last at full whack? 5,10,15 seconds? ๐Ÿ™‚

I'd have to agree with dobo as I can see more detail on the ground in the first pic rather than having half a field lit up for no benefit

Surely at some point you've got to think enough is enough?

Because some manufacturers are having the nerve to outshine some of the stuff I was making 5 years ago ๐Ÿ™ ๐Ÿ™ ๐Ÿ˜ˆ

Did that on Friday night. Had a terrified badger in front of us as well - didn't realise they can really shift.

Love it - but serious Q: at what point would LED light damage eyes?

Looks like you could run two side by side if you moved the mount to the centre ๐Ÿ˜ˆ

In the words of the pain men 'there's only one way to find out'

Don't intend to try though.

Beamshot pics are rubbish I agree. Its off to the woods with my camera.

Superb.

I'd like one just for commuting.

Have you done any work to try and shape the beam?

Ignore the naysayers. Utterly pointless. Totally unnecessary. And magnificent for those reasons alone. As a previous poster has already said, men in sheds and all that made Blighty great. Brings to mind Barnes Wallace and Whittle. Suggest you build in a speaker system that plays the theme from Dambusters that you can activate with full power mode at the start of fast decent...

That's probably because the camera's having to squint with that thing on full blast. ๐Ÿ™‚

The middle 6 lenses give a horizontal oval shaped beam. The others are diffused spots.

I can mix n match anything I want.

One person in each town/city with one of these and no one else will need any lights ๐Ÿ˜›

Actually, just noticed that the blurring on the second demo photo makes the lights on the right side look like you've set the forest on fire. ๐Ÿ˜†

I'm quite amused by the idea that you could pop on a pair of dark glasses before a night ride...

I'm just wondering how the hell you change gears on that bike given how badly positioned your shifters are.

Guess you don't drop your seatpost much.

I liked this

3 hrs @ 4000 Lm (which is perfect for most of the rides)

Most??? You mean there's rides where you want more??

Blimey! Handy for clearing snow and melting unexpected patches of ice too. Wouldn't want to meet you coming the other way though...
