Looks like one of the Leopard Trek riders has taken a rather nasty spill, not sure who yet, but the commentator mentioned a defib.

Hope that they are OK.

Helicopter shot seemed to show CPR and there was a huge amount of blood on the road. ๐Ÿ™

Looks awful.

It's Weylandts apparently - some people are already reporting the worst.

Fingers crossed. Does not look good.

Racing seems to have been suspended for the day, looks like the bunch will just roll in.

I thought it all looked a bit confused. I had assumed that word would filter through and that everyone would sit up, but then with a few k to go one of the Leopard Trek team went on the attack which convinced me that nobody really knew what was going on. Really can't imagine that the finish would have been contested the way it was had word got around.

๐Ÿ™

A sad day for the sport. A sad day.

Unconfirmed rumours that he's not OK at all. ๐Ÿ™ Just hoping this isn't the case.

I hope I can speak for all of us here at STW...our thoughts and prayers go out to Wouter Weylandt and his family.

Horrible.
Does anyone know what happened? Didn't seem to be other riders involved?

this was from the eurosport ticker:

CRASH: A few riders from the peloton seem to hit the deck on one of the tight hairpins on the descent. More info coming up... This downhill stretch is so fast the motorcycles are having trouble staying out ahead of the leading riders in the bunch

and then:

CRASH: A massive fall in the peloton. There were no live pictures but this is a terrible sight. It looks to be a Leopard Trek rider. He is motionless with blood pouring from his head and nose, clearly unconscious as his helmet strap is being cut loose my the medics. It looks like a defibrillator is being carried out. Horrific scenes in Italy

Does anyone know what happened? Didn't seem to be other riders involved?

Clipped wheel or something on the descent, was going a fair rate of knots.

It's been a bad weekend for cycling. Someone died in a Sportive on Sunday, there was a 4X rider very badly injured at Penshurst on Sunday (currently on life support), there was a mass pile up in a road race when a car ignored the requests of the marshals and drove through the finish line straight into a bunch of sprinting cyclists. And then drove off.

Just so sad. ๐Ÿ™

Yes, I had no desire to rewind the TV either. It looked very serious even from the glimpse that the moto camera got. Youtube should really take the clip off in respect for his family.
