[#391369]

Hello all - just finished the "first fix" of a new-ish P7 with sliding dropouts but found there's a lateral gap between the frame (about 6 or 7mm) and where the caliper needs to be at the back. I didn't get any mounting bolts or anything with the frame so this was a bit confusing to begin with - I've used some v-brake washers to space it for now but don't think the bolts are long enough either so am not going to ride it like this. I'm going to call Orange on Monday for advice but wondered if anyone here had the same frame and could give me any of their wisdom? Are washers the way forward or is there a piece missing?

strangely your "thosebears" domain is blocked by Peer guardian so I can't see your photo, here's one of the wifes P7 same area:

hope that helps 🙂

Ah yes, mine is different to that - there are a few P7 frames about it would seem where the disc mounts aren't attached to the slidey bit but are actually ON the frame.

ps - thosebears is completely safe I promise!!

ok disabled PG, that doesn't help as the wifes bike has the brakes mounted on the drop out rather than the frame.

Aye, see above. There are a couple of other P7s on eBay with the same rear end as mine so I am fairly convinced it *is* a P7 😉

why do you think thosebears is blocked? what is it as a domain?

anyway, here's the image for folk that use PG

gotta say that the frame fixed mounts do look nicer, I guess they just don't work as well 🙁

thosebears is just my own domain name for depositing random pics of bikes and stuff...

and yeah, i think i prefer having the disc mounts solidly attached to the frame but like i say when i offered up the caliper and found that gap it was a real smack-the-forehead "durrrrrr, what's going on here??" moment 🙂

I don't doubt that its a P7, Orange are continually fettling with their bike design, I'd get some longer bolts, should be fine,

the wifes (2008 mk2) P7 uses these:

I wonder if that would fit your bike and fill the space? probably be stronger under breaking load than a stack of washers?

Yep, that had occurred to me as well - the gap is precisely the thickness of the drop out thing - everything *should* match up eh? 😉

I found my rear brake mount was beginning to shift when braking under load. It's a known issue which Orange have a modified rear dropout with a third hole for, but it involves wideing the paniar hole on the frame to make room for a third bolt, I see your MkI frame has the same configuration so its something to keep an eye out for.

enfht when you say "Mk1 frame" what year would that make it then do you reckon? Again I'll obviously ask Orange when I speak to them but you sound like you know what you're talking about too! 😉

I "think" it went to MkII in 2008, reason I think you're MkI is the integrated brake mounts in your pic...compare your make brake mounts with the other pics (black frame) and you'll see the brake mounts in the latter are part of the removable dropout and not part of the frame like yours. This is why I got slight movement in the dropout and needed to add a third bolt in the panier slot, which the black frame pics above show as unused/empty. I guess Mrs Nutt weighs less than me and doesnt put the brake mount under as much strain when she breaks! Mr Nutt's image of the dropout is the non-modified version, the one Orange sent had an extra hole for the (ex)panier bolt. Thinking this through, I dont think you'll get the same problem at all because the MkI's brake mount cant move at all cos it's part of the frame instead of part of the dropout. It was only the MkII which introduced the problem. Hope this helps
