race face X crank removal question

so i've removed the plastic outer on the chainwheel side
removed the bolt with the 8mm hex head

tried a couple of light taps with rubber mallet on non drive crank
tried putting the plastic thingy back in and tightening it onto the axle

so do i find bit of wood dowel that will fit against the axle from the drive side and hit it hard or what?

From RF website.

Q: Do I require a special removal tool for my X -type cranks?
A: No, you do not. There is no “tool” other than that the "puller-cap" already installed on your drive arm that will do all the work for you.
*There is no need for the 10mm cap to be removed for the installation/removal process at any point.

You removed the puller cap?

Put it back together and try again.

Don't hit it hard. Here's how I have to remove my '07 Deus...

Put both the bolt and puller cap back in.

Put an 8mm allen key through the puller cap to engage with the bolt.

Loosen the bolt off again, and as it braces against the puller cap it should remove the crank for you.

I learned this the hard way.

Here's how I removed my 09 Deus...

Put an 8mm allen key through the "puller cap" unscrewed, puller cap shredded, leaving knackered threads on my driveside crank.
Hacksawed through axle, dumped cranks in the bin.
"You what? They don't use a puller cap on 09 cranks?!"
I learned this the hard way!

So, don't get it wrong.

You may need a crank extractor, some RaceFace HTII cranks do need such a think.

Chucking £160 worth of crank in the bin makes me SHOUT!

I repeat '09 cranks DO NOT USE A PULLER CAP.

I think the "plastic cap" he removed is the puller cap, dont you? 😉

thanks - will give Cha****ng's suggestion a go as makes sense mine are 07/08 and don't look same as those in pic - though pushing out on a plastic cap seems a bit worrying!

disappears down cellar and promises to be kind, gentle and snuggly patient ......

I believe its only a puller cap if it is LH threaded and looks like this -

Otherwise you need an ISIS extractor.
