[Closed] Ragley Blue Pig Vs On One 456

Right thinking of a new project and can't decide between the 2. Obviously the On One is cheaper which is always nice, but I am almost tempted to go all out and see if I can get a titanium version of either fairly cheap. Not looking to buy just yet but let me know if you have got anything as well as your opinions on the bike or any other options.

Cheers

Never ridden an on one, but loving the blue pig. Probably doesn't help much.

never ridden a pig, but loving my 456 (being resprayed and rebuilt at the moment). Probably helps as much as the above 😉

Never ridden a Pig, but the impression I get is that it is the 'evolution' of the 456. In practice, this means that it looks a bit nicer, is a little bit more hardcore (longer 'optimum' travel, slacker) and designed for quite technical riding (up or down).

I bought a 456 because it was about all I could afford, but I also think that a Blue Pig might be a bit too much for the riding I do - I live in the South of England. There are lots of hardtail options though - just do a forum search. The best thing is probably to say what kind of riding you do and where.

having owned both (both 16" and im 5'10") i can say that altho i liked the 456 i much prefer the blue pig. it climbs better and goes down far better. also it seems to egg you on to try tricky stuff you wouldnt normally ride.

the evolution of shedfire™ 😉

i dont really judge bikes by the looks but if i had to choose on this one i would say the on-one, and im not really into hardtails as i used to ride one and then got a full sus and still loving it, the blue pig just looks out of place imo

I never considered an On-One before because I didn't like their looks, but I quite liked the new colours/designs and ended up buying one. I've read a few people that feel exactly the opposite though. I think the Ragley's look nice too, less agricultural than the On-Ones.

My second ride on my Pink 456 is tonight. The first ride was good and the bike felt nice. I'm 6' and went for the 16" because the 18 felt too long and looks a little gate like for my liking. If I had the money for a Blue Pig I wouldnt buy one, I would go for a SH Evil Sovereign.

So in summery the 456 is nice but buy a Sovereign as it is a much nicer bike.

Had a 456 and now a Blue Pig. The 456 is a lovely frame, only gripe is the cable guides. When I first got on the Pig it felt a little bit lifeless in comparison, but once you start pushing it comes into its own. The Ragley soaks up a bit more trail chatter but its also stiffer under pedalling/loading through corners. Its a wee bit better on steep technical climbs. I doubt you'd be disappointed with either.

You'll be lucky, or is +£700 fairly cheap?

Not sure if its the new 36t steel as opposed to a worn 34t alloy ring that's tricking my head, but the 456 is already feeling much stiffer than the DMR with identical builds (haven't even altered tyre pressures yet).

Where'd you hear that ooOOoo? Lots of people seem to say that long forks on a SS are overkill, whereas everyone rides long forks on the Ragleys without fuss!

I also thought the seat tube was even steeper. But i'd take quoted geometries with a pinch of salt... what fork length, what sag etc. etc.

i have also owned both, and would probably say the complete opposite to firestarter.
started on the pig (aptly named) felt clumsy and unstable, switched the kit over to a 456 and couldn't believe the difference, completely different beast!
much more stable, pushed me to try more than i would have ever attempted on that over-rated farm animal!

but hey, that's only my opinion 😉

Had both. Went straight from 456 to Blue Pig. Same forks and kit. Pig seemed to climb better. Both excellent though.

Whyte or a Sanderson. That's what I'm talking about (although I do still like my On One Ti456!). How far back can we go? Sitting bolt upright, 50ft away from your front wheel isn't going to help your steering and control that much is it?

kona do gate-sized freeride bikes - the 5-0 comes in a 22" I think. Not sure it's steel, mind
