I have scratched my fork stanchions. Came across a sticky on bikeradar.com which reccomends rubbing down any raised bits with fine wet n dry then filling scratches with paint and rubbing smooth again with wet n dry. Has anyone done this, did it work and is it still working a reasonable time later.
I am a bit worried about the durability of this dodge I have smoothed down the raised edges of the scratches with 1200 grade paper like it says but now I can barely feel them, do I need to do the second stage and apply the paint or can I forget about the paint. The scratches are near the top of the travel and as I run my forks fairly firm I cant see the scratches getting as far as the seals very often.
What are the cons of just leaving them as they are now and what are the pros of applying the paint.
Rather than using paint use soem clear nail varnish.
If the scratch is near the top then its unlikely to make much difference, also depends on what type of forks they are as to whether it will make any difference to the performance of them. If the damping cartridge is fully sealed then the scratch is unlikely to make any difference.
Should have said what forks They are Rockshox Reba SL 2007 air forks set to 100mm travel
The lowest scratch is 78mm above the top of the wiper seal
