I though a roadrat was any old tatty bike you ride to the pub on? That or a good bike made to look naff so no-one nicks it. And the Cotic.

How many bike do you have Joxster, if you don’t mind me asking?
( I think if I show your collection my five or so bikes might not get moaned at as much 🙂 )

Around about 20, there are a few that I’ve lent to up and coming youngsters.

    Mr Frosty,
I was a Pro for a couple of years so I’ve built up a collection.

Not all were freebies, but were certainly not retail. I’ve had a few Ti frames but I kept snapping them.

    Thanks Neil + RD

RD what size was it? Was it the long or the short frame?

Houns – it was the large, and the original frame Cotic did before doing a frame to accomodate drops. I sold it to RD. I bought it in Cotic fanboy mode (owned a Soul and a Soda), built it up and though I liked the way it looked I found I much preferred riding my Cross-Check.

Houns, where are you based? Your more than welcome trying mine for size if you want. Its a medium long version.

    Clearly not

Maybe so, but there was a fork recall on the early ones, including “mine”. Not sure why.

Cheers neil + johnners. I’m based in the Mids, think the long will be too long for my dodgy back so i’m thinking of a short with flat bars.

Just contemplating a bit of a project for the next couple of months…

large and it was before they started doing long/short versions, so i’m not sure which was original

Here’s another angle. The front brake hose needed work, but I never bothered in the end.

I am doing C2W scheme…could i build a roadrat for sub £1000? Would the bike shop do it for me?

I believe cotic only sell the frames not the rest?

Halfords and Evans are the two companies I can use.

typical weight of a road rat (£1000 build)?

What sort of ratio do people use on a road rat?

And lastly what sort of average speed do people get out of them? I ‘spin out’ my SS crosser at about 21-22mph but that is 42 x 16.

AW – Cotic do full builds starting at around £600, they also do the C2W scheme. I currently run 39/16 on a mixture of road and bridleway and spin out at similar speeds to you. I am about to try 39/14 with proper road tyres on, hopefully my knees will take it!

    Houns my email address is…wheelnut64@googlemail.com

The delay in coming back to you was I was inspired so I went out for a spin on my SS crosser (with 42 x 16). What a ride! I was buzzing charging up hills and flying along the flat. The crosser handled most hills even steep ones with a little out of the saddle work.

    I love single speed 🙂

I bought one of Cotic’s standard builds. Long mdium with flat bars. Run 44:17 for my commute – 12.5 miles each way. changes have been:

A set of London fixie spacers so that I can run a 17t groove armada sprocket.
Recently swapped the front v brake for an Avid BB7
Swapped saddle to a Specialized BG one.
Added mudguards which is more hassle than it should be.

Overall very happy with the bike. Good fun commuter.

£600 for base bike. Probably ~ another £100 or so for additions/changes

Have you an idea of weight richcc?
