just wondering, heading over on Sunday with a mixed ability group from work, but might rethink to closer to home , Mugdock or Aberfoyle, if it's gonna be a sledgefest ๐
I hope so.
There was nothing on the moorfoots this morning, but the snows due to come in today.
aye, pretty much expecting it, hopefully this post will stay up and current ! It will be lovely riding when it's fresh, but with a mixed group, the prospect of frozen ruts and possibly not getting above Buzzards Nest is maybe not ideal
Bound to be a good dumping shortly - the Glentress Duathlon is on on Sunday, and it wouldn't be the same without a mud/blizzard combo.
You might want to see here for details to decide if you still want to go, or try somewhere else. Not sure how much of the duathlon overlaps with the trails.
Edit:- looking at the maps, not too much overlap I don't think.
yeah, saw that, but as you say, little overlap and I think the Duathlon numbers are limited to 150 so not many compared to a 'normal sunday' Thanks
There was only a light dusting of snow in Midlothian this morning (friday), it was too dark to see the Moorfoots.
Fantastic conditions last night at GT, rock hard trails and a sprinkling of frost.
sounds lovely - here's hoping it stays like that !
was their last year when the Duathlon was on they never incrouched at all on the redtrails only on the fire road im down their on Sunday so any snow reports will be brill
According to Mr Ranger Sir no disruption as of 2 hours ago... But the forecast's pretty white overnight.
Rode there today and the conditions were superb, with blue skies and a heavy frost. There is only a dusting of snow on high ground, the rest of the trails are rock solid and mostly bone dry.
The boundary trail is particularly good at the moment and all trails are open including the black option on Falla Brae ๐
p.s. Think there is a race on tomorrow at 12

Drumlanrig is excellent for mixed ability as you can dip in and out of the red from the blue. Pop into the shop for a map and I'll show you where the easier bits of red are..
only an hour down the motorway..
rick - would love to as your trails are my fave of the 'man made-ish' ones and actually closest to me (live in East Kilbride), however a few of the guys and gals are further east and have transport constraints, so logistics favoured GT.
see you soon though ! Iain
hairy baws. Who did you manage to get out with you?
Looks good and no i'm not jealous whatsoever, in fact i'm really really glad i was working today ๐ก
What is the last bit of the A702 from the M74 to Drumlanrig like when it's freezing. Does it get gritted? Thinking of coming down on Sunday if not too snowy.
What's the report for today? Heading down there in 20 mins...
Well i'm in Inners - roads clear but it did snow quite a bit last night - say 2" on pavements - not sure which way you are coming - don't risk driving over The Granites
Hey 7hz - just realised who you are - have a good one!
Keen to hear from anyone who has ventured up the trails at GT or Inners,
Quite a lot of snow in Peebles I'm hearing so I'm guessing there will be a fair dumping on the trails higher up
rich - will call/text this evening. Am thinking that even of the trails are ok the road over Carluke direction is going to be mental at 830 tomorrow am........
new back tyres fitted to the rear wheel drive sledge first thing this am and still can't get up the last bit of road to the house !

Two brand new front tyres for me this morning!
Well let me know what your doing, still keen on heading out somewhere.
deffo riding, assuming I can get out of EK, and it's all downhill anyway ๐ The prospect of an hour and a half of treacherous cross country driving to Peebles may be the clincher that sends me to Mugdock. There will be half a dozen or so heading out there at 9 anyway, and it will be lovely. Only downside is those in the planned tomorrow group who were hiring bikes at GT..
will leave decision till early evening so will text J.
off to build a snowman with the kids now ๐
Weather forecast says lots of snow overnight tonight. Was meant to be heading down tomorrow but going to give it a miss now.
Inners - only messed about - we were first up the hill today so fresh snow. Quite hard work going up - only went to top fire road - 2 - 3 ".
Going down ok but that was fresh snow - few bits of ice underneath but all OK. Wouldn't do the quarry right now - there's usually ice at the bottom under the snow
update - just phoned ranger - 2 inches overnight snow on hard - was lovely early on, now getting hard packed with ride lines. will all depend on tonight's freeze and whether there is any fresh stuff.
Hey Diane - thanks for the weather report! I read it but didn't have time to reply as was rushing out the door.
GT was great today. Very calm, occasional sunshine, about 1 to 2" of dry powder snow max, the compacted tracks helped. Going up was a little more draggy than usual but ok. Coming down was fine, but took it a bit easier. Front end slipped a few times but never more than an inch.
The bermed runs felt like I was on a luge or something, lots of fun.
Thinking of going back tomorrow, looks like it will be a bit more windy and possibly lots of snow...
GLENTRESS SKI SUNDAY!
Going back for more tomorrow.
Conditions will be lots of snow.
If anyone fancies hooking up, will be leaving Edin 9.30, Pathhead about 10, to be at Glentress about 11am. Sorry but truck will be full (4 of us going so far) so I can't offer a lift.
Leave a note here if you fancy it and I'll make sure to wait for you.

Bump - still going - 11am or thereabouts (probably 11.30) start.
Prob gonna ride there and do some cheeky stuff ๐ Might see you there or at the cafe if it's open
Hey Diane - didn't see you, but we had to leave straight away so didn't go to the Hub. Was another good day at Glentress though, forecast was totally wrong, only a sprinkling of extra snow, trails quite compacted but snow powdery and gave reasonable grip, apart from once I almost lost the front end in Spooky Wood. Hope to catch u soon anyway!
Well i didn't do much - rode there and back and did a bit of duathlete avoiding - oops!
