Ton - some people do use their MTBs you know - not just build em and sell em.

VGC for a used component.

Wot TJ said.
VGC for, say, a frame to me would have some marks or chips on it, maybe a bit of chain slap and paint missing off the dropouts, but be generally shiny, straight and free from damage. And it would also be half price.

It's a mountain bike, we ride them in crap and chuck them in the garage....!

VGC means VGC!

If it's a bike thats been battered then mechanically VGC but paint in ok battered conditon.

If my tyres are very worn and oh it's been on a mtb then it's VGC? you're having a laugh, it's in good condition part worn.

I have a roadbike to sell in VGC-it's ****ing mint.

If it was chipped or scratched I would say fair conditon.

Sorry I thought we were using English.

Anyway I would never buy without current pics and always wonder why the seller has not posted pics in the first place.

VGC=battered on the classifieds then? when did standards drop?

teej, pp, boolax
vgc should mean very good condition, not vgc but the chainstay is gouged, or the dropout is bent.

There is a difference between VGC and as new....... and surely it's down to personal interpretation.

And most people ask for pics anyway so make your own decisions.

Nice Troll (again) big man 🙂

ive had a 'hardly used' only to receive a totally worn tyre. maybe it had been used 'hard' and their ad had some poetic license. def a serial bike splitter. the front tyre was fine, perhaps to much stuff and not enough attention?

the seller has mentioned it, but it is obviously not in vgc.

The sellers words were 'in excellent condition, apart from some chainsuck marks on the chainstay.'.

You really are being a bit sad if you've got nothing better to do except troll over something that won't even fit you... 🙄

I think its your definitions that are out - remember that some people teat he bike as something to ride and a bike thats ridden gets scratches

Its not a concours competition you know

teej, wot has this got to do with if a bike is ridden or not.
it is wether a bike/item is in vgc when it is clearly not.
i would love to see your reaction if some one sold you a item in vgc and when it landed it was a bit rough.

Ton - I am winding you up.

However the looks or cosmetic condition of my bikes don't really matter to me so long as they work. Function is all. You can't see them when riding them and they are covered in mud.

I think you are being very precious about this - especially as the ad you refer to the poster clearly states there are chainsuck marks - so VGC except for the chainsuck marks seems fair and as he is willing to give pics then hi is not attempting to mislead anyone.

How about a bit more bike riding and a bit less bike pimping? Its n MTB - they get scratched when ridden

teej, i have a bike that i have ridden every workday for the last 10 years.
i know what bikes are for.
it does more miles commuting than most bikes owned by people on here can ever imagine.
but, do not advertise something in a manner that it is obviously not.

that is all i am saying.

Sorry Ton, didn't mean to get you all hot under the collar with my ad for the Endorfin.

However, the frame is generally in excellent condition, apart from the chainsuck, which I showed clearly in the photograph you very kindly posted.

Would you rather I didn't mention the chainsuck, or perhaps just allow people to assume the rest of the frame is in a similar condition to the chainstay by describing the whole thing as okay?

Or are you worried that someone might miss the rather large photo and go by the description alone?

This bike was ridden. It got chainsuck on the frame when the chain dropped, but it's still in excellent condition for a used mountain bike.

Should you actually keep a mountain bike frame long enough to ride it more than once, then I look forward to critiquing your advert in the classifieds.

stop trying to rip people off...............

Okay, Ton I accept that condition can be subjective and that you might expect the description "excellent condition" to be applied only when every single part of the bike is in this condition.

I disagree, and I think it's okay to say "...excellent condition, apart from some chainsuck marks on the chainstay" as long as the exceptions are clearly stated.

To ensure that this was clear, I used a photograph of the relevant chainstay. Not a small photograph, but one that was big enough to see the full extent of the damage.

I think this was pretty clear.

So, you saying...

stop trying to rip people off...............

is quite offensive, as I'm clearly not trying to rip anyone off, otherwise I wouldn't have posted the second photo.

I can't see anything wrong with the ad. Seller is quite up front about condition of frame and has posted pics without being asked. Seems he's done nothing wrong. Some folk never keep a bike long enough for it to get dirty, so have probably never seen chainsuck marks before.

Its clearly not mint then. If it was then you would show us the pictures. Mint is the top - that means it is exactly as it came from the factory without a single mark

Why can you not understand that the post said "excellent condition bar the chainsuck marks" which is not the same as VGC.

why is this a problem.

You have not apologised properly. No one but you thinks the description is wrong. You claim he said something that he has not. So its a clear unequivocal apology the chap needs not a mealy mouthed sort of apology

Now lets see the pics of your "Mint" frame or are you to ashamed as it is not mint?

Put up or shut up
