Used to be a squaddy called Gary, she's now called Amanda and ran a photography studio in Middleton, last I heard.

Found it unusual for the first couple of weeks when I worked with her, but soon forgot about it until anyone else mentioned it.

Had all her tattoos removed apart from the Parachute Regiment one 😀
Still used to swear, walk and drink like a squaddy, which was quite impressive really.

Very nice person, a great boss and a pretty inspirational attitude toward life.
Proper handy in a scrap too – no one expects the large blonde with the
stilletos to wade in first.

I will never forget the day I walked into my friends room to find her hanging from the ceiling, she was pre op but was only a few months away from having the full operation.

She couldn't handle life anymore because of all the narrow minded idiots that couldn't just live and let live.

My biggest regret was she told me she was going to do this (not in so many words) but I missed the clues.

Yes men dressed as woman is often considered to be rather amusing – Dick Emery made quite a career out of his "Ooooooooh, you are awful…but I like you" routine.

In fact it's quite deeply embedded in British comic tradition, as the example of the pantomime dames suggests.

And it isn't just heterosexuals who find it amusing, gay men do too – that's why so many drag queens are gay. Many years ago I went to a gay pub where the entertainment was drag acts on a stage, it was all done for the amusement factor ie the "laughs"……..none of it was serious.

What I can see, is childish 'jokes'. Which make the subject of such 'humour' feel uncomfortable, humiliated and hurt. The 'jokes' continue, to the point that the subject feels thay can no longer tolerate the 'humour'.

The 'hate' is in the fact that the 'joke's are designed to humiliate and ridicule. Can you seriously not see that? Or do you expect everyone to develop that building site thick skin? Absolutely, ernie_lynch, the "problem" was my fear of being ostracised from my friends, family / beaten up. I went through the usual assumption that "I'm alone, the only person like this in the World" etc and I was very lucky to realise that it isn't the case at all. Thank goodness for people like Pride, the Internet etc.
