I can't believe anyone would do that and not video it. Come on, where's the video? 😆

to paraphrase SFB – surely they risk assessed the situation and decided the ice was strong enough to hold two of them and a car, then decided that the were going to have their enjoyment and didn't want anyone to rescue them if it'd had gon tits up? This country has bcome Health and Safety mad nanny state!

And TJ – we're all a bunch of Jessies for suggsting this was in anyway ill-advised or stupid.

As someone who would be mobilised to arseholes like this if they went in the water, I hope they get the book thrown at them. But suspect they'll get off with a mild reprimand!

They are in big trouble now- possibly bankrupt- as BW [British Waterways]will charge for reovery. I am going to go out on a limb and suggest their insurance will not cover this.

other than the obvious potential waste of public service time, is it actually a crime to be a dullard?

going out on the roads risks wasting police/fire/ambulance/coronor time.

I don't mind my council tax being raised if it's to pay for stuff like that. My faith in today's youth is restored.

It was silly to do that with a Landy if it doesn't have a raised air intake – could end up costing a couple of hundred quid for a new engine.

I'm amused that they tried. You could predict the result fairly well, but ultimately I have some sympathy for them, after all we could all just sit in quietly and watch TV. Using a car was really taking the risk a bit TOO far though.

obviously on evidence so far 406's aren't up to what the drivers think they are

A police spokesman said: "While it goes without saying that the vast majority of people have the good sense not to take their vehicles on to frozen waterways, this incident serves as an example of the type of stupidity that the emergency services occasionally have to deal with."

    Thats an amazing quote!
