How fat are you? What width tyres do you run?

How much to do weight? Do you ride with finesse? What size tyres do you run?

Most people will tell you that 355s are strong enough and that they're running pretty big tyres on them.

Personally, I prefer the Flow as I'm about 15st kitted up and they feel a bit stiffer. Plus, being a wider rim, they feel more supportive of big tyres. I find that fat tyres and skinny rims feel like they're rolling off in the corners. Flow rims with fat tyres feel more stable in the conrners and give a bigger foot print.

I've got 355's on my 575 running conti 2.3s using stans. Had mavic 717 beforehand. The 355's have been fine. I'm mainly trail/xc riding and 11ish stone

If you're getting them built up rather than buying Hope Hoops, I'd say get the build done with Arch rims as a good compromise- else heavy rider/fat tires - Flows, otherwise 355's.

from what you say, my guess would be you fall in the Flow camp.

Archs ๐Ÿ™‚
Lighter that the flow bit stronger than the 355.
I'm 14 stone of pure british beef and I've had not problems....355 were too scary light for me.

Probably going to go for a set of flows pro2 hope hoops.

What do you need to run them tubeless?

If you buy them from wheel pro and they'll come totally ready to run tubeless with stans strips and even a bottle of tubeless.

Happy with the Hope lights off dipper...can't we get him to do a Hope Hoop group buy? He can put me down for a Flow front and 355 rear (for separate bikes). ๐Ÿ˜€

Roger Musson seems to think that the 355s would be plently strong enough for the average 14.5st rider as long as you're not doing more than say 4ft drops (as a rough guide).

Not sure about the 355's being strong enough for a 14.5st rider! I've got qutie a bit of a buckle in my Roger built Flow and can't say I ever done more that 4 foot drops and weigh in at around 12st. I reckon a 355 would be knackered by now.

I'm not sure the weight penalty the flow has over the 355 is enough to make it a deciding factor.

I'm only 10-11 st, but was considering changing my 355's for Flows, simply because I'm a big fan of fat tyres and the Mountain King 2.4's do roll over a little easily at lower pressure (I mean, lose their shape, not a catastrophic falling off the rim).

In the end I didn't. The 355's are really quite nice and light though!

Agree with this, if you want to run wider tyres 2.3 then go with Flow for 2.1 or below go with 355

sts, I had exactly the same question myself a few weeks ago.
I seriously recommend speaking to Roger at wheelpro. He said that theres plenty of big guys riding 355s with no problems whatsoever on normal UK trails. They're just as strong as DT 4.2s and there are plenty running those.

I'm sure 355s will be strong enough. I chose the flow rim because it's stiffer and because it makes big tyres feel more secure. Also, the Flow rim makes a 2.1 feel like 2.3. Aluminium is lighter than rubber. a 355 with a 2.3 weights more than a Flow with 2.1

I've just ordered some 355 but I'm 11-12 stone. I'll be putting them on a specialised stumpy 5" full suss. I used to run 717s and the only problem I had with them was when I crashed.

From what you said I'd go for the flows in your case. Arch if you're getting them made up specially. I'd put flows on my hardtail because I car less about weight on that and treat it badly so I want a bomb proof wheel. But the stumpy is my good bike and I'm nice to it.
