Any recommendations where to stay for two nights at a weekend near these centres?

Cheap and cheerful preferable, b&b or self catered?

We stayed at Gorsebank Wigwams for 4 nights last year. You can ride offroad to the Dalbeattie trails through the farm. It is really great, kinda like camping without all the agro. There are BBQs for each wigwam or you can use the kitchen in the shower block. There is also a large metal shed to keep bikes in overnight.

The bloke who runs it is called Paul; really nice guy.

You could try the Ronda Guest House in Dumfries - cheap, clean, friendly, let you put the bike in the dining rooms, 20-30mins from Ae and a huge breakfast for about £20 per person with single rooms available

You could try the Criffel Inn in New Abbey, about two mile from Mabie and about twelve mile from the trails at Dalbeattie. It is owned by the same guys that own Fat Tread Bikes in Aviemore.

They have a steel container with secure bike storage as well as bike washing facilities.

My wife and I stayed here recently. It's on the edge of Mabie forest and you can cycle straight from the chalet to the trails if you wish.

The Anchor pub at Kipford, lovely setting right on the edge of the Solway Firth, about 1 mile from Dalbeattie trailhead , great food and beer rooms a bit basic but it's only somewhere to Kip.Alistair, the landlord, rides a bit too.

The Break Pad in Castle Douglas. Bike friendly B&B, secure bike storage (with hosepipe and workshop!), fantastic food and an easy drive to Mabie, Dalbeattie and Ae. The 2 girls that run the place also run the bike hire shop at Dalbeattie.
Some decent pubs/restaurants nearby too along with a big Tesco.

Tell them I sent you.

I stayed at Kipford holiday park for a wek in the tent. Dalbeatties over the road you can join it halfway round.

Kirroughtrees and Mabie are an hour away and Ae's about 30mins

Another vote for Gorsebank. We stayed there in the the autumn last year, cracking wee spot, yards from the trail.

Each hut has a heater, microwave and kettle.
