I had an MTB accident in mid September, and have been off the bike since. Unlikely I'll be able to ride before Feb at the earliest. Very frustrated and pissed off.
Anyone else, and what injuries do you have?
(me = two crushed vertibrae, three broken ribs and a broken hand. Have been wearing spinal brace since 20 Sept)
Moan over. Not after sympathy, just would like to know it's not just me!
twisted my knee a couple of weeks ago - swellings just going down. Might try 10 mins on the turb trainer at luchtime to see how I get on.
Missing the autumn riding that I like best, too ๐
Several fractured ribs on 5th Oct, still very painful, off for a second xray this afternoon, hope nothing untoward there but still unable to breath deeply, cough or sneeze without a loy of pain, thankfully my bike is ok ๐
Done something to my right knee, cannot run or ride. Now just waiting to see a physio to see whats occured ๐
Knee/stem interface 2 sundays ago. I can ride, but can't get out of the saddle, so commuting and getting down to the pub is OK but nothing more.
Broken elbow, fractured rib and collapsed lung falling off on a road training ride at the beginning of July.
Been on the turbo and irdden around the car park once. Still hurts.
Running instead now. Hopefully back riding next spring before having the metal in my elbow removed sometime later next year.
hurty foot. can't really walk, running/biking are off the cards until further notice.
off for an x-ray next week...
Yes, also broken here. I had a motorbike trackday accident in August (knocked off by one bike and then hit on the ground by another). Fractured vertebrae (now nicely tied together with titanium rods), fractured humerus, elbow, collarbone and twenty (yes twenty) rib fractures. I don't expect to be back on an MTB until next year sometime. It's been so frustrating looking out of the window at all the great riding weather we've been having.
Slipped on a patch of diesel on commute to work yesterday - scratched my new Ultegra shifters ๐ Mashed my left knee and right index finger - I'll be right come Sunday I think ๐ Only temporary unlike above but still withint the remit of the OP ๐
Torn shoulder ligaments. Thankfully I can ride, but I can't fall off, so mincing even more than usual.
shattered kneecap in july. can just about walk. riding properly in jan/feb hopefully.
boo.
Dislocated shoulder last weekend
Diliberately run down, shattering my collarbone in June 08, not diagnosed as a non-union until November. Plated & pinned but found the screws pulling out of the bone this spring.
Just had the plate & screws removed so waiting for the all-clear from the Consultant.
toe fusion 6 weeks ago. driving today for the first time again as post op shoe came of yesterday -). allowed to swim and cycle but no dabbing the right foot for the next month as it will break the fusion, so will be restricted to road rides. Hopefully venture out very carefully tomorrow for half an hour and see what i can manage.
Damaged my back in february, after 2 different physios,a chiropractor and hydrotherapy also accupuncture and eight months of core stretching and 2 surgical consoltations,no one can say whats wrong with me except that i am 3cm shorter than 10 years ago and my spine is not in the best off nick(39 years old) i can only ride on the road as mtb gives me back pain so i have to just keep to green lanes its geting very boring

What the hell? Not to be a noisy bugger but any more info as sounds nasty.
Broke my foot a month ago - Back at hospital this week and told no op required which is good news - physio starting in a week or so but being off the bike for so long is a nightmare ๐
Dislocated shoulder week last monday, still got a big numb patch on arm but starting to get decent range of motion. First thing they said was 6-8 weeks but think I will be doing level rides pretty soon, probably mincing like buzz.
biking buddy broke foot (see above) have been unable to drag self onto bike on my own. have begun to fester ๐
Torn muscle and ligaments in my foot at the start of August, fingers crossed first ride tomorrow.
herniated disc c6/c7 neck and additional herniated discs in lower back L1 and L3 and damage from hematmoa in left leg jan 09 which has damaged muscle tissue and IT nerve.
Had a back muscle go into spasm last Friday.
Went to the physio and got it manipulated but my employers won't let me back to work yet.
Been signed off work until 12th November but I'm planning on taking an easy ride on the cyclepath this Sunday and planning on riding a bit pretty much everyday until I go back to work.
my mate broke his hand in 3 different places and sevirely internaly brused his left hand at lee quarry yesterday spent most of last night in a&e
Spiral fracture of the Fibula with a Comminuted fracture of the Tibia.
Broken almost 7 days ago to the minute. 5 more weeks in a splint, 11 more until I can ride or do any kind of physically damanding activity.
WTF am I supposed to do for 11 weeks?!
๐
Seperated shoulder here, the best bit is I did it last Sunday whilst out riding in the mountains in Japan, meant to be on business lol, had to struggle through all week with only 1 arm working, making 2 presentations every day all over Tokyo area, now in Seoul and looking forward to the same next week.
Worst bit is having to be strapped up for 4 wks with no riding, then mincing for another 4 wks with rehab, then maybe for xmas I can start trying to recover my racing fitness again ๐
Ain't biking ace ๐
Ours is a beautiful, but dangerous sport isn't it ๐
It was truely beautiful right up to the point of impact ๐
I got a blister on my thumb from building a wardrobe yesterday.

I was riding to work (around 06:30) at a fair old pace, and overtook a bus parked up along a 3 lane road.
The driver (100 yds behind) accelerated at me, leaning on his horn and screaming at me through his windscreen.
I gave him the V's, clearly the wrong thing to do, when I was around the bus I looed back to see him cutting across the
3 lanes straight at me!
He hit me, I hit the curb, he then drove off as fast as he could.
I never got his details, but luckily a passenger getting off the bus lived next to where
it happened. So he called the Police, Ambulance etc; but also didn't get the driver's details ๐ก
Bloody Hell mate - sorry to hear that - I know what you would do if you could get your hands on the ๐
Fractured my 5th metacarpal on day 2 of 3 in Scotland ,now in plaster for 5 weeks. ๐
Knackered lower back, nerve keeps on trapping and muscles go into spasm.
Will be sorting out an MRI scan next week.
Broke Scapular and Clavicle (and finger) on 1st Sept. However seen the most amazing surgeon, privatly unfortunatly, who's patients are 80% proffesional sports people. Was back on the bike 2 weeks ago and just about back to normal now. His details are here;

Broken clavicle and cracked ribs from last Sunday. Being properly assessed on Tuesday but early signs are that I should be back on the bike early in December. Can't come soon enoughy for me!
Some ouch stories on here - I hope you all get well soon.
My little experimental ride on the Qs today went well - I put flats on, held back on the descents and rolled things and all was well. In fact my shoulder feels a lot better for having worked it a bit.
I feel very lucky to be be able to do low-commitment riding, it's just good to be outside.

I feel your pain. Towards the end of 08 I bust a finger. Then in December I injured my back in a bad off. Finally got out riding again on Good Friday and promptly crashed and tore my intercostal muscles.
It cost me most of 09, certainly no racing. Just getting back into the swing of things now with this years cross season.
Being very careful for 2010.
28 weeks in a cast a few years ago. It sucks. No good news I am afraid.
madzaba -
Yes, also broken here. I had a motorbike trackday accident in August (knocked off by one bike and then hit on the ground by another). Fractured vertebrae (now nicely tied together with titanium rods)
I too fractured/compressed two vertebrae, in june this year, after hitting a tree head first.
I too had to have it operated on, six vertebrae now fused together with two titanium rods, eight screws and a bone graft.
Just started riding again after 4 months, felt brilliant to be out, but its like learning to ride all over again, and still a fair bit of pain. Overall its no fun at all ๐
madzaba, how are you getting on with yours? And which vertebrae was it? Mine was in the thoracic region, T5 and T6, the rods going from T3 to T8.
not really ridden much in 5 months.... I posted a few bits on here to get advice, physio has not worked, Finally got an xray today.. problem seems to be damage to C7 T1 and T2.. leaving my whole left side numb and loss of feeling etc, just awaiting a report from the specialist!
i have a sports hernia or athletic pupalgia at the mo its a nightmare most folks say it can't be fixed without surgery but some say you can so you have to try.
12 weeks of no bike so far and lots of rehab looks like i might make it but we reckon i am only half way there. so after christmas sometime maybee ๐
broken trapezoid. (bone in the wrist, next to the scaphoid!) out till xmas ๐ฟ

Jackal - my two crushed vertebrae were (are still, actually!) T7 and T8, also in the Thoracic region. My CT scan was sent to St Georges Hospital, but told I was unsuitable for an operation. Given yours and Madzaba's injuries, I wonder why I didn't have an op? Were yours 'burst' fractures? Or do you know what percentage they were crushed by?
Cheers
Mike.

Hi Mike.
One of my vertebrae was crushed by around 30% they said, not sure if this is classed as a 'burst' fracture or not??
The other was fractured all the way through.
My CT scan was sent to both Sheffield (northern general) and Leeds for the best course of action, I was originally helicopter'd to wakefield but they weren't too sure what to do by the sounds of it.
Ended up having the op to fuse it at sheffield northern general as they decided the spine wasn't stable enough for anything else.
Surgeon said it was a relatively common op for that type of injury, also had some bone chipped off the hip to graft onto the vertebrae to strengthen it.
Its still reasonably sore now, alot of that is to do with the 10 inch or so cut they had to make through the back muscles to get the rods in ๐
Hows yours coming on? still in much pain?
๐
I have had one hip surgery and am waiting for another and havent ridden for nearly two years. ๐ฅ
Hi Jackal
I wonder if it's something to do with one of yours being fractured rather than crushed. I've seen the xray, and they are both crushed by what looks like more than 30%. I was not airlifted, in fact the paramedics made me walk (supported on them) 20 metres to the ambulance ๐ฏ Now that WAS painful, and from what I have heard since it was a mistake.
I'm still in a fair bit of pain/discomfort, but the spinal brace came off on Sunday (six weeks after the accident) and I can walk unaided for a mile or so before it becomes uncomfortable. I can't lift weights, but can do most other things, albeit carefully.
Physio has told me no bike this year ๐ฅ , mainly because if I crash it may set me back to square one.
At least I can start getting my fitness back!
Cheers
MIke.
Big stack at the bottom of the Cwmcarn DH course = dislocated wrist and a grade 2 open compound fracture of the radius. 3 operations to put in 3 pins, 6" plate, 12 screws and 2 wires which were taken out 3 weeks ago. Off the bike since mid July, but hopefully back to 'gentle cycling' by the new year. Maybe racing again for the summer.
Havn't been able to do any exercise until now really, so will get a turbo on the go through the winter if the physio ok's it.
....and I'm miserable 'cause I've got manflu and haven't ridden this week. ๐
Bear up everbody. Get well soon!
madzaba, how are you getting on with yours? And which vertebrae was it? Mine was in the thoracic region, T5 and T6, the rods going from T3 to T8.
mike59 - It was my L1 vertebra that was fractured, and the rods tie together T12 to L3 or L4. I think the main reason they operated on my back was because of all of my broken ribs, and I also had a lot of vertebrae ligament damage below the one that was fractured. It was difficult to stabilise me and do anything with me with both a fractured spine and so many rib fractures. Off to Liverpool today for my three month check. I'm not expecting any issues. The operation went well at the time and I've had no issues since. I'm told that some people can feel the rods inside. Thankfully that isn't the case although my GP said that I probably will when the weather is very cold...........
Not injured but been ill for ages and going biking seems to make it worse ๐
Had some kind of cold/virus thing for at least a month that I just can't shake off - was in bed for a week or two but now when I start to feel better I go out biking and seem to get worse again.
I'm going to have to lay off for a while I think. Still not as bad as lots on this threade - chin up everyone!
Had the results of my second x-ray last night following an off on 5th Oct when A&E said I had several fractured ribs, results are 6 fractured ribs, swollen and torn intercostals, swollen left lung and fluid in left lung that is nothing to worry about as it is normal and will clear as soon as I can cough properly ๐
Good news is no haematoma in the lung, no punctures and no trapped air pockets,no sign of infection, been told at least another 2-4 weeks but could be 6-8 weeks, might be back on the bike for the Clent Duffers(TM) Xmas ride
