......as a service assistant? 12 hours a week, which would fit in with my other work. So, anyone do it? or know anyone who doe's? Pro's/cons?

I don't no, but I can say that the folk who work at the service desk in my local Screwfix always seem to be happy at work. It's very noticeable every time I am in there.

Same here, it's a retailer I struggle to find fault with, great prices, service, choice, convenience, and quality

Maybe they may have a good recruitment process which results in only naturally happy smiley people being offered jobs.
They are mostly smiley in my local branch, except for one woman who took umbrage at me asking if they sold x - she just grunted and told me to look in the catalogue, which I would have done if I'd known what it was called 😕

Next door neighbour worked for them last year and enjoyed it. A long term back injury from a previous employment meant that she had to finish but they were really good with her during this period too.

an ex-GF's son worked at one for a few months over the summer, he seemed to like it there (and he didn't have a clue about anything DIY related).

So she dropped the "fix".

Is this after reading the "What is the point of GPs" thread?

Well blow me, interviewed today, offered job, start in a fortnight ish. Quickest I've ever gone from seeing an ad to getting a job.

Good luck.

From what I've seen they don't seem to bad. Look at B&Q (same group) there's loads of older staff. IME older staff don't hang around if the job is hard work, low paid and they treat you like shit to boot!

We have all been to big corporate places where the staff couldn't give a flying ****, as a result of being treated like turd stuck in the grip of a shoe. There's massive churn because no one wants to work there. You normally find the middle management/house n/gang masters are distant, autocratic, everything is a mither/too much trouble and generally want the workforce to be cap in hand slaves (endlessly flexible for their convenience) who are eternally grateful. I don't blame them it comes from the top.

Well done houndlegs !

My missus works at a local Screwfix, has done for 2 1/2 years. Refreshing to find they treat their employees well. She only does 2 days a week which works in with our lifestyle well. ( The 20% discount there and B and Q comes in mighty handy too ! )

Thanks both. sierrakilo, I seem to have spent a small fortune there lately, I'll ask 'em for a rebate when I start I think 😀
