the home desktop, which is a 3 yr old Dell something won't switch on - if I press the power buttom it comes on orange, like standby. If I then hold it in it goes off. Can't get it to power up to green light though. It has power ok as green light is coming on at back - any ideas ?

Thanks

Does the light flash/are their additional LEDS on the front - the flash sequence/colour sequence is the fault code on some models.

Have a look at the Dell website for your model for a troubleshooting guide at the very least....

I've had this with both of my office pc's.

Your power supply is borked. Dell fixed one of mine under warranty and the other was fixed by a mate. It's apparently a fairly easy job and the power supplies cost around £30.

It seems to be a problem with them. Mine spluttered into life once or twice after it first started happening but then they died pretty quickly thereafter. The supplied power supply units are in a 'box' at the back of the tower unit and just need to be unplugged and a new one put in its place.

As a complete technophobe i got somebody else to do it, you may want to do it yourself if you have a better understanding of technology....
