Off for family holiday in couple weeks to Lanzarote - playa Blanca then teguise, is there any experience in the ST hive mind about road / gravel or mtb hire or route options to sneak out on or is it a holiday to just bake by the pool and complain the air con does not work ?

Is it too hot to be out in middle day in August and therefore early morning riding ?

Any recommendations for rental companies ? Was there someone renting fatbikes ?

Thanks

Paul

There’s plenty of road riding to be done - I’ve been a few times and both hired bikes and taken my own. The roads are generally a dream to ride on - smooth, wide and traffic-light. I’ve ridden from Playa Blanca, Puerto Del Carmen and Costa Teguise.

I’m not sure about off-road routes but there must be some as you see plenty of dirt/gravel tracks about the place.

I’d recommend Revolution Bikes for hiring.

Yeah - the fat bike place is called emotion fat bikes and it’s near where you will be.

We used them as a family a couple of years ago and had a great time. Thoroughly recommended.

The bikes were great, only a few came with droppers tho, I think you need to take or buy water bottles. They had helmets etc but you might want to reserve your bikes at this time of year.

Temperature will be warm but should be okay. It’s usually pretty consistent year round.

Just watch out for the nudey beaches if you’re on a family bike tour.

I have used emotion bikes in playa blanca a few times.

Been out by myself around the papagayo headlands and up the hills behind them. All good fun.

This year i did one of there tours which took in the head lands and then a ride up the volcano. Was great. The guide was super nice and very capable on a bike. Even gave us a free bottle of water and energy bar.

If you want to do some proper mountain biking you need to head to the north of the island though. Much bigger hills and some nice trails - which i have never ridden. The guide was telling me they are great.

I used Bike Papagayo Lanzarote ( http://www.papagayobike.com/) I hired a road bike Trek with 105 from memory, it was fine but the gears needed a bit of tuning.

There is some decent road riding from Playa Blanca depending on your fitness levels. A shorter ride around El Golfo or a longer ride further North, it is quite a good base. The road out of Playa Blanca was a block headwind every time we rode it (take the LZ-701 no the LZ-2 that runs parallel with it).

We are going back in December and I am going to hire a mountain bike to try some of the off road stuff.

I have some GPXs for the riding we did from Playa Blanca if you want them

If you want a really fun day out do a boat trip to LA graciosa and hire hardtails to go round that. It's a blast and takes half a day. Teens and up can handle it no bother.

Would highly recommend Bueno Bikes

I've often hired a bike and done a guided day out while on holiday and Mick stands out as the best of them.

Also used Revolution in PDC, had a road bike for a couple of days in the week. They let me pick up the day before each time so I could get out early to avoid the hotter parts of the day.

I was out at 7 and back by midday both times, temps were fine although it was late June so possibly a couple of degrees cooler.

I went south the first, north the second and pretty much covered most of what I wanted to.
