Ive just been reminiscing - watching some Blondie videos on YouTube - Heart of Glass, Picture This, Rapture etc..
Great stuff and a very attractive lead singer in Debbie Harry. Ooof.

Unfortunately, Ms. Harry is still performing at the age of 67. Obviously she looks old and a bit loose and her voice
has lost the power and range we once enjoyed. I just thought it was a bit sad to see her performing badly at big events like T in the park etc. to crowds who don't know who she is and cannot sing the lyrics when gestured to by Harry with her mic' in the air.

I think she / they should bow out gracefully and not tarnish the memory of their heyday.

i think you should just ignore it if you don't like it.

which is something that i now intend to do with this thread.

bye.

If there is a willing audience then why should she stop. I am not aged myself yet, but have zero intention of bowing out gracefully as the years creep up. Far better to enjoy the years you have.

Coincidentally, I thought Derek's best work was circa 2011. Just the same hackneyed stuff in 2012. Should have quit while ahead....like The Office did.

....possibly do a Xmas special, though.

Never a Blondie fan but how lacklustre is her singing on Maria?
Woeful.

Despite my generosity to the older generations in encouraging them to remain active participants in our society, i reall do wish Delia Smith would take her canned, boiled, alcohol soaked mediocrity to a place where no one has to see it.

Went to see Killing Joke recently and have to say I kinda agree with Deek.

Ironically Jaz Coleman looked a complete Joke, pretty much now a parody of himself, physically looking like a cross between David Dickinson and Simon Cowell it's not something you really want to see still busting out gothic angst poses.. don't think they should stop playing, just thought Jaz could take heed of the balding"Youth's" performance ie. playing the music well and not ****ing about with piss poor amature dramatics.

Having actually seen Blondie as a support act, (The Cortinas/Blondie/Television, in that order), and having seen Blondie tour again when Maria was released, I can confirm that Ms Harry's voice was perfectly good on stage, and the older songs were in no way diminished by the years.
Of course, you're entitled to your opinion, but in my opinion, having been there, you're talking bollocks.

Well i saw her perform at the Latitute festival a few years ago and she was the best act there, all the 'youth' bands were tuneless and talentless.

I'd see her again given the chance.

All things taken in to account, I've always thought that Keith Richards has looked pretty good over the years.

I saw her at Glastonbury back in the '90s. It was like watching the Queen Mum dancing at a wedding with a skinfull of gin.

Not as bad as Simple Minds though.

She was saying on some radio programme that they lost a lot of money from bad management and other stuff, so I'm guessing that why she still performs.

Have to say I wouldn't mind looking like that at 67.

"buccaneer can you help me put my truck in gear, can you take me far away from here". If that doesn't get you 12 points on your singing licence I don't know what will.

Derek.
Your first post on STW was a great debut.
The fresh faced innocence, the way you transcended the zeitgiest and pushed the boundaries was revolutionary.
The publishing of that photo and the way you dealt with it endeared you to[s] millions[/s] hundreds of people.

Unfortunately, you're still performing.
After loosing the weight you're a bit loose and your chins have lost the power and range they once enjoyed.

I just thought it was a bit sad to see you performing badly on big threads like this, to posters who don't know who you are and can't relate to your excrement based anecdotes when gestured to by Harry with his ***** in the air.

I think you should bow out gracefully and not tarnish the memory of [s]their[/s] your heyday.

😉
