[Closed] Uniroyal RainSport 5 tyres - good/bad experiences?

Need new tyres on the wifes FIAT 500 - all 69bhp of it. Don't need super sticky tyres obviously and I like the sound of the wet performance of the Uniroyals. The brand has been around for years and now owned by Continental apparently. Anyone used them and got real world feedback?

I used to have them on a Suzuki Cappuccino, they stopped it aqua plaining and at the same time allowed it to go sideways everywhere, which is a good or a bad thing depending on your point of view

Had them on a couple of rear wheel drive cars, lasted well and gripped well. No complaints from me

Ran them on my old Focus ST.

Liked them much more than the Goodyear (iirc) that they had as standard. Decent in the wet as you’d expect/hope!
Soft(?) though and wore out pretty quickly (5-6000miles).

Would consider them again but currently on run flats with plenty of life left before I need to worry about that.

I had rainsport 2's on a car 'quite a while' ago! Thought they were very good.
So if that's anything to go by then the newer ones should be good too.

Might be worth comparing them with Michelin CrossClimates price-wise. I’ve recently had a pair fitted to the front of my EcoSport, which is almost twice as powerful! Coincided with some very wet weather with huge puddles stretching halfway across the road. Hitting those normally would result in the steering wheel being really dragged sideways, but with the Michelins there was only a slight tug. The car just feels more positive in its handling, compared to the standard Goodyear tyres it came with.

Hmm, food for thought. If they can cope with a Focus ST they should be fine on a 500 🙂

I had a version of them on a mini years ago and they were great in the wet.

I had a set on my car that's a similar power to your 500 and they wore out ridiculously quickly, as in 9000 miles compared to the 30k I get out of anything else. Currently on Toyo Proxes as they were cheap and I couldn't afford the Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance I was on previously and they are great in the wet and lasting well after 10k so far.

The 5's are better than the 4's for throwing the car around (a better offset stability ridge). No vagueness.

Have them on the rear for 40k miles just doing motorway crusing and throwing the car around the slip road roundabout.

I like the 5's.

They're alright but tbh despite the rain I didn't think they're as good in the wet as a Turanza or Eagle.

You could look them up on tyrereviews.com . Reviews from actual experts rather than clueless consumers who just give everything 5 stars because it wasn't perceptibly worse than the last one they had.

Personally I wouldn’t move away from a Michelin these days. In my experience of two sets on rwd, the current ones being 255 Pilot Super Sports at 4mm they are still great in the wet/damp/cold and last for miles. Although I’m considering a Primacy/Tauranza T005 for more grooves in bicycle race fields car parks, ideally I’d be getting the mps4 all season.

Toyos were awful in the cold and Bridgestones & Contis got harsh riding over several years for me but we are talking about 10yr + ago for that experience.

They were great on my 306GTI, you just need to let them bed in as I found mine extremely wallowy for the first 100 miles then they were great in the wet!

Yokohama Blue Earth AE50's are quite good on the rip-snorting diesel Note, the Dunlop equivalent are quieter still and similar wear rate and grip. Both are a better bet for fuel use than the Uniroyals which may be of more use if you mainly drive the Fiat in town.

Used to run Uniroyal RainSport 5's on my old FWD Audi A4 Avant 2.0T Specail Edition (220bhp)

No complaints here, good grip, worked well in the wet/damp/cold, cant comment on mileage as i only do 3-4k a year so only did 12k on them before selling the car but they still had a good amount of tread left on them

Came on my Audi A5 s-line. Been fine and no complaints apart from traction in sports mode at times. Now at end of life and a bit dicey as all tires become. Changing to Kumho ps71s tomorrow.

Up to £100 off 4 x Michelin tyres at Costco at the moment (and they are already cheaper than Blackcircles etc) if you know anyone with a membership.

Edit: £40 off 4 for around the size you’re looking for. £244 fitted for Crossclimate 2

+1 for comparing them to Michelin CrossClimate.

Best tyre for wet grip that I've used. Also on a Focus ST. They also really last

I hade some rainsport 2 and thought they were good. I would also recommend the cross climates for wet weather.

They're top of my list to go on my R53 Mini which gets driven quite hard.

Going to go for the Goodyears after much deliberation. Thanks all for the suggestions.
