As the parent of two children under 3, the original version of the Kids Ride Shotgun seat has got to be one of the best cycling accessories I’ve got my hands on. Effectively a mini extra seat that fixes to your bike’s top tube, it means your kid can come mountain biking with you.

Doctor! Doctor! I have double vision, I am seeing two of everything. Dr: "Take a seat on the chair there" Which one? OK, it’s probably not the best doctor doctor joke of the genre (personally, I like the one that goes ‘I keep comparing things with something else’ ‘Don't worry, it's only analogy’), but it is fitting to our story here. Dr Chris Leatt, the man behind Leatt mountain bike and moto products, is already a medical doctor, but is also well on his way to becoming an academic doctor too. And of course, if you told him you were seeing two of everything after a mountain bike crash, he’d have you following a bunch of concussion protocols and treatments quicker than you can say PhD My meet up with Chris gives him an excuse to leave his desk where he’s writing up his PhD and venture out on the trails at Swinley. It’s the first time his NS Synonym has tasted dirt, though his spritely efforts round the pedally trail suggest he’s managed plenty of road rides on his XC machine. He’s over in the UK on what’s become an extended trip thanks to Covid travel disruption. Apart from the not insignificant inconvenience of it rendering his South African fixed wing pilot’s licence out of date (he did manage to convert his SA helicopter license to a UK one) - the extended trip has simply given Chris and his wife the opportunity to scope out more areas of the UK and spend time with friends and family. With their children all grown up and living back home in South Africa, the empty nesters have spied the potential to spend more time in the UK in the future.

The Nevis Blue Doon, the longest Blue grade uplift mountain bike trail in the UK, has been opened at Nevis Range Mountain Experience near Fort William. Joe Barnes and Pete Scullion shot us this POV of the full run. The Nevis Blue Doon, is a Blue graded downhill cross country mountain bike trail at Fort William’s Nevis Range. The longest Blue grade uplift trail in the UK, it’s accessed by the Nevis Range Mountain Gondola. At 650m up on the mountain of Aonach Mor in the shadow of Ben Nevis, the top section of the trail is on open hill side with fantastic views across Fort William and Loch Linnhe. It then heads into the forest and joins the huge network of trails in the lower forest at Nevis Range, and finishes at the car park. As Pete and Joe note, it takes a full 20 minutes to get down and it’s quite an effort to do without stopping. ‘Bring your sandwiches and stop along the way’ is their advice. https://singletrackworld.com/2021/10/new-blue-doon-trail-full-run-pov/

Canyon provided our man Sanny with a couple of Spectral bikes to go out and have an adventure with in the Scottish Highlands. This was the result. After an enforced lay-off, Sanny and Rory get re-acquainted with an old mountain friend. Picture the scene. A slightly sweaty studio somewhere in London. The studio lights are burning down on you with the intense ferocity of an angry sun. Your family have already wasted 2 life lines and an expectant Bob Monkhouse (Ask your parents! – Ed) is hanging on for your answer with bated breath. The Goodwin family from South Penge are waiting for the steal. “We asked 100 members of the public to name a Scottish Mountain. You said Ben Lomond. Our survey said…….(cue pause for dramatic effect)……..(ping!) 73 people!” The audience go mad. You’ve just won the £3,000 jackpot!
