at it again, this time riding into the back of a stationary car whilst remonstrating with someone on the phone..

Ok he's got the guts to post it but as one of the (few) who stuck up for him last time, can I change my mind please?

I don't think he understands that cars do get in the way and you sometimes have to accept that they don't understand cyclists

Someone should point out to him before he gets killed that even though there's a cycle lane never ever go down the inside of a lorry. Especially when there’s a left turn ahead. He needs to go back and redo his cycling proficiency test.

I agree with highclimber all the people he pisses off must think all cyclist are the same. As said above some drivers just don't understand cyclist.

i thought that was going to be a video of him getting hit by the truck, seemed so obviously risky it's a difficult to work out how he's managed to live this long!
as for paying so much attention to drivers of stationary cars using their phones that you crash - what a bell end!!
hope the driver of the car he hit sues him for whiplash!!!

I take it i'm not alone in thinking high and mighty commuter heroes are tools.

I could have lamped the bloke who decided it was a good idea to cross the road in front of a big motorbike this morning. Lad on big touring motorbike was lucky he managed to stop safely.

I was within a few feet of him for about a mile this morning.. very little regard for his safety, or anyone elses.
Just plain selfish, as bad as the crap car drivers.

I've been served at a McDonalds drive thru before. The window attendant said he isn't sure if he's allowed so asked his manger. The manger took one look at us, laughed as we were totally covered in mud and said serve them 😀

If he was flying down an Alp or something i could understand the helmet cam, but he seems to like filming on busy roads whilst looking for some aggro. Hope he wasn't too badly hurt but he deserves a bit of gravel rash for being a complete cock jockey.

I can never understand this 'will give us all a bad name' nonsense. My daily commute has taught me car drivers appear to hate other car drivers, van drivers, taxis, lorry drivers, bus drivers, cyclists, motorcyclists, horse riders, pedestrians and some seem to hate 999 vehicles! The chap in the vid would be a cock end regardless of whatever cause he decided to champion, not because he is a cyclist, just because he is a cock end. Seems like natural slection may cure of this one in the end though...

We once got turned away from the drive thru at Mcdonalds on our bikes. So, we wheeled the bikes inside. never been turned down at the drive thru since. It was very muddy that day!

Oh yeah, the vid. Knob!

Well, that's twice we've seen vid of him getting into situations he could have avoided. No roadcraft whatsoever and a disaster waiting to happen.Going down the inside of lorries is madness - he can't see the road ahead, especially the junction. Nor can he be 100% sure that neither of the lorries is going to make a left turn 🙁 Nutter!

Hahaha! I missed last weeks and now the video is gone.

He said he'd reported it to police so I'm guessing he's been advised to remove it whilst action is pending.

Basically a van pulled out on him from a junction on left, causing him to brake.

He thumped on the back of it. Driver who reacted by shouting back, slowing, attempting to force him into the kerb and then throws a plastic bottle at him..

AFter watchign some videos ive ridden a few of the roads/jucntions in question and clearly live pretty close to this guy but ive never seen him out and about!

The roundabout hes going round though, is totally ****ing stupid. I rode around it once when it was very very quiet in the evening and even that was a stupid thing to do. You always get slow moving traffic in the middle lanes and car trying to zoom up the inside/outside to get one car lengths forward. I wouldnt say what that bus did was good driving though! Given there is a bridge about 500 metres away that is traffic free (other than for cyclists and the occasional moped) i dont know why anyone would use that roundabout!

The worst thign is ive seen slower and less confident riders ride it.

how has he managed that?
the car in front of the guy on the phone didnt exactly jump out of nowhere.

while roadies tend to be "super fit VO2 to the MAX" they really can be inept at bike handling and general coordination.

yesiamtom, i know that roundabout too, having ridden it a couple of times at rush hour. If i'd known there was an alternative i'd have happily taken it. Its truely scary riding a bike in the correct middle lane at 17:30 on a weekday in the dark!

Going to be honest- that guy needs lessons on how to commute.

From the start- undertaking those lorries. I just wouldnt do that full stop.

Secondly hes going a fair rate when he comes out from the second lorry and theres a junction there- imagine driving across and this cyclist just suddenly pops out infront of you.

I always try to overtake slow moving or stationary traffic.

I haven't even got to the next bit. He really needs to learn how to ride in traffic. Does anyone know him?

I winced when he went on the inside of that big truck ......

The reason he crashes is because he turns his head, I assume so he can express his displeasure at the car (slightly) blocking the cycle lane

I was like this when I started bike commuting 15+ years ago. It takes a few years to get off your high horse and go with the flow just expecting drivers to always do stupid things. There really is no nead to get so worked up about it.

Bloody cyclists

I would have gone down the right, but it looks narrow and I'm sure you would get alot of abuse from drivers telling you to use the cycle lane.

If there's room I'd ride down that cycle lane. It is what it's there for. No junctions for the lorries to turn down and let's face it, the twonk with the helmet cam knows those road a little better than you do.

And I for one, commute (in that same area in that sort of traffic) SO I DON'T HAVE TO SIT BEHIND THE TRAFFIC. Otherwise I might as well drive.

I guess he's trying to be some kind of road warrior highlighting the poor cycle lanes in Hampshire. Which he is doing in a way.
But he's also showing himself to be a right pillock.
Did laugh when he hit the car.

If I fitted a camera on my helmet all you'd see would be glances at crumpet on each pavement etc etc. The amount of times I've almost crashed going past Manchester Uni' 😯

There's no way you'd catch me going down the inside of a lorry, coming up to a junction or not. You can't see ahead, and the guy driving the lorry can't always see you. If I wanted to pass, I'd go around on the right.

Years ago I had a guy on a bike ride into the side of my car as I turned right. He'd just cycled up the inside of a parked lorry next to the junction. Fortunately he was going uphill, so it was all pretty low speed.

However, it's a very difficult accident to avoid, unless everyone is moving very slowly.

No you overtake.

Think about how you drive a car and the mirrors you use. If driving in a straight line slowly how much more do you check your right mirror as opposed to your left? More. Therefore drivers will clock there is a cyclist in the vicinity.

In addition- Would you ride a motorbike down the inside next to a kerb? You'd overtake, why?

I go both ways (Fnarr-fnarr!) when overtaking, whichever has the most space..... It can be a bit hairy if the traffic starts to move and you feel the need to outsprint a car or two. Fun though...

I must admit I watched the vid and thought that I wouldn't have gon up the inside of those artics, but then I saw they were stationary, so I'd have done the same.

I'd agree that going up the inside when stationary especially seeing that there are no left turns I wouldn't be too worried about going up the inside. the bloke is still a knobber regardless.

Well said PP. It all depends on the traffic/location/time/moon's orbit etc etc.
There's no hard & fast rule.

Looking ahead, when you start to see movement down the line/road and the cars 4-5 infront start to move then you look left- clear left hand signal and filter back in and across the front of the car that has had a chance to see you.

It takes someone who is confident and clear to do this. You must start the manouveour though whilst travelling faster than the other cars though.

As mentioned before by another poster as well- commuting into central London on a bike gives you sixth sense. I remember the infamous Swiss Cottage triangle where cars converge and cross over 4 lanes from 5 different angles. That was hair raising yet fun! 😀

Can you feel the love in the room stw? He's made a daft mistake and he's suffered for it and as he's posted it I assume he's taking it on the chin. Have a giggle at his expense but i cant see where the hate is coming from.
"Give cyclists a bad name" argument is cobblers of the highest order.

While I too winced at undertaking lorries the road layout looks like you'd be knackered trying to overtake them, he seemed to slow up and go cautiously and I'm sure he knows the roads better than most of us here.

Aye and like horses (think about it) those wound-up/irate drivers may take out their anger/react to another entirerly innocent rider further on down the road etc.

Makes you wonder how he's not killed himself, I thought he had a point in the first clip, although he did overreact, but this is just plain dumb.

I was taught, by a cycle coach, to assume that the very worst thing can and will happen and that you can minimise your risk by always looking for the worst case scenario and trying to avoid it. I think looking where you're going falls into this category! 😛

There's a very fine line between assertion and aggression when riding but it's easy to get so wound up that you end up hurt.

the majority of people on here think he is, myself included.
Don't get me wrong, he might be a throughly nice gentleman in person, when not riding. But given that he likes riding dangerously and crashing into things because he's berating others on their driving, that makes him an idiot!

In that latest clip he is obviously riding in a certain way because he has a helmet cam on. He probably wouldn't have lost concentration and hit the car otherwise.

Yeah. I do all of that (Apart from the signal) then still try to outsprint cars. It's fun!

There's narrow bridge on my way home, where 3 roads meet and is controlled by lights. I ALWAYS go straight to the front of the queue, and park up slap bang in front of the front car. Then when the lights go green (I know the sequence) I sprint like buggery under the bridge to the next mini roundabout. It's very, very rare I'm caught by a car. Short sprints is what I'm good at. 🙂

Hand signal to a cyclist is deeply uncool but for me its like a Beemer driver forgetting his indicators- it can inflame other road users. They might know you are going to make a move and it inflames then when you do just that and 'recklessly'. It leads to '**** you over or undertakes' to punish you.

Like a wild animal, talk upto it as you approach and you wont startle or anger it.... 😉
